I'm curious about the simple and high-speed overseas theme "Generate Press" [WordPress]

2018/12/1

I was looking for a simple and fast WordPress theme for my blog. There was a wonderful domestic theme that was free and fast, but somehow the design didn't look right. On the other hand, paid themes that I thought were "good" cost more than 1 yen, which was a high threshold for beginners who just started blogging.

GeneratePress is sometimes found on sites that introduce WordPress themes.I hesitate because there is almost no Japanese information, but I tried to introduce it because the design is simple and I like it very much.

Overview

GeneratePress is a fast and lightweight foreign wordpress theme. Created and operated by Tom Usborne, a developer with over 10 years of development experience on the Web and Wordpress, the community is quite active, so if you have a problem, you can usually solve it by referring to it (English is required).

The free version has limited functions and customizability. If you purchase the paid version for $ 49.095, all 14 add-ins will be freely available and can be created on various sites.Other features are as follows.

  • Mobile responsive design
  • Very lightweight and fast (installation less than 30kb)
  • You can choose to prevent unnecessary features from being loaded in a modular format
  • Maintain security / stability / up-to-date coding with an average of 3 updates per month
  • SEO optimized: validated HTML, structured by schema.org

It is quite popular overseas, has been downloaded more than 160 million times so far, and more than 10 websites have been created with GeneratePress.

Initial setup

Installation of parent and child themes

Download from this official website

https://generatepress.com/

If you customize the parent theme directly, the changes will be par when overwritten by the update. Therefore, edit the child theme. You can download the child theme from the following.

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-child-theme/

Enable the child theme from the WordPress theme and the setting is completed for the time being.

Google Analytics and Search Console settings

Since it is troublesome to set up Google Analytics and Google Search Console respectively, use Google Tag Manager to link them together with the site (strictly speaking, "Google Analytics linked with Google Search Console" is called "Google Tag Manager". And insert the tag created by Google Tag Manager).
The following site will be helpful for the method.

Integrate Google Analytics and Search Console with WordPress using Google Tag Manager

By the way, even if you edit the header.php file directly and insert the tag, this will also be overwritten by the theme update.
If you use the following plugin "Insert Headers and Footers", you can edit the header from the WordPress administrator screen and avoid overwriting by update.

If you paste the upper code displayed in "Install Google Tag Manager" into "Scripts in Header" of Insert Headers and Footers, you can insert it in the head, and if you paste the lower code into "Scripts in Footer"Immediately after, you can paste this code as follows:

The free version has a lot of features. (For example, in addition to the above, the SNS share button also needs to be set with the plugin). If you support it with too many plugins, the light weight will be ruined, so it seems good to update to the premium version once you get a feel for the free version.
