I migrated my blog from mixhost to Xserver [Easy WordPress migration]

2022/12/28

It's a miscellaneous blog that I haven't updated much, but I thought it would be a shame to delete it, so I maintained it for the time being.

However, I learned from this year's update email that mixhost has also changed its price in response to the recent price increase, so I decided to move to Xserver as an affordable place to move.

How I migrated from mixhost to Xserver

This is because I felt that the maintenance cost for a miscellaneous blog that I continue to write as a hobby is high.On the other hand, free rental servers are afraid of service stoppage.

Speaking of Xserver, it is a royal image that people who start a Wordpress blog use first, but I have not used it yet.

Pricesmixhostis 35,640 yen / 3 years even if you use the campaign,X serveris 24,948 yen/3 years, which is cheaper than XNUMX yen. Both domain maintenance fees are free.

Currently, I don't use the full resources of the standard plan, so it doesn't matter which one you choose in terms of specs...

So, I moved to the X server.

Flow and procedure of blog moving

I used “WordPress Easy Migration” to migrate my blog. It was helpful for beginners because I didn't have to use "file transfer (FTP) software".

This is the general flow.

  1. Free trial registration for Xserver
  2. Add domain
  3. WordPress easy migration
  4. Operation check
  5. NAMESERVER TRANSFER, THIS AGREEMENT

1. Free trial registration on Xserver

Allow this time frame to complete the following migration procedures:

2. Domain addition settings

In order to be able to use your own domain on the X server, add the domain in the server panel. (Don't change the nameservers here yet).

3. Run WordPress Easy Migration

The procedure is detailed on the official website.

First, I ran the manual from "1. WordPress easy migration" to "7. Data migration complete".

4. Operation check

If you change the nameserver, all search traffic will result in an error if the transition is not successful.for that reasonOperation confirmation URLI used to check whether the migration was successful or not.

5. NAME SERVER TRANSFER; THIS AGREEMENT

If there is no problem in operation, complete the migration according to the manual "8. Change nameserver".
After the migration is completed, if the site is properly displayed, you can officially apply for a contract from the trial registration.

The original domain was acquired by another service, but when the domain was transferred after the contract with X server, the maintenance fee became free.

After completing the contract with the Xserver, from the Xserver account, "Apply for various benefits"Original domain forever free privilegeApply forBy selecting "transfer" at the time of application, there is no transfer fee and it has been free for many years.

I mean, it's not stupid to pay for the server. It looks like we will have to move every three years.
